About the Product
Developed in cooperation with the U.S. Military, government agencies, universities, and others; this Sawyer Clothing repellent offers superior protection from disease-carrying biting insects. The active ingredient, Permethrin, is a synthetic molecule similar to those found in natural pyrethrum which is taken from the Chrysanthemum flower. Not only does this product repel insects, but it will actually kill ticks, mosquitoes, chiggers, mites and more than 55 other types of insects. Sawyer Permethrin clothing insect repellent is for use on clothing, tents, and other outdoor gear. A single application lasts for at least 6 washings. Permethrin is odorless when dry, and during the drying process it tightly bonds with the fibers of the treated garment. It will not stain or damage clothing, fabrics, plastics, finished surfaces, or any of your outdoor gear. Spray this product on your clothing to kill ticks and mosquitoes for up to 4 weeks with a single application. Our recommendation is to use on fabric or porous surfaces only such as clothing, tents, backpacks or boots. Tips and Helpful Information :
Enhance your outdoor experience and reduce your discomfort in dealing with common outdoor pests by looking over the following information; - Permethrin is a contact insecticide with the same active ingredient used in hair shampoos for head lice
- This product is also very effective at reducing the mosquito population in your camping area when used on tents, sleeping bags and other items in the camp area
- This product should be used in conjunction with a skin-based repellent, but can be effective alone when clothing gaps are not significant
- By storing the treated clothing in black plastic bags between uses the protection can be extended considerably
- For treatment of packs, tents, camp chairs and other non-washable items the application will last through 42 days of exposure to sun and air
- 3 oz of formula per garment is recommended
- If you treat your socks, they will count in the overall application as well and the formula used is part of the 6 oz needed to treat a complete outfit
- Applying less than 3 oz per garment will lead to unsatisfactory results
- Treating your back-pack will significantly add to the protection provided from treating just your shirt and pants
- Sweating and exposure to water does not significantly deteriorate the application
- Can be used to treat flea infestations including the eggs and larvae which are commonly not affected by other treatment methods
- Do not expose cats to wet Permethrin as it affects their central nervous system
- Cats can be around Permethrin-treated fabrics once the application has dried
